The technique that undermines a logical argument by introducing irrelevant information is known as the red herring propaganda. This technique distracts the audience from the main issue by presenting a point that is not related to the discussion at hand. By diverting attention away from the original argument, it can create confusion or lead the audience to abandon the logical flow of the argument. This makes it easier for someone to mislead others without directly addressing the central points being debated.

In contrast, repetition propaganda focuses on repeating an idea or message to reinforce it, and sweeping generalization propaganda makes broad claims that may not be true in all cases without providing supporting evidence. Compare/contrast is a method of analyzing similarities and differences between two or more subjects and does not inherently undermine an argument. These other techniques do not serve the same purpose of distraction and divergence as a red herring does.
